The last update we saw was Preview build 10512, and it was a major improvement over the previous release, but of course it had its issues as all Preview builds do. Microsoft’s Gabe Aul reached out to Windows Insiders on Twitter last week to find out if the build should be released to the Fast ring, despite having a major bug with Store purchasing, the overall response from Insiders was a resounding yes! But unfortunately that build was nixed last Friday because of another issue discovered. Gabe said on Twitter ” I have some bad news folks. We discovered an issue late last night that would have caused builds after 10536 to not install over it.” — Gabriel Aul (@GabeAul) September 14, 2015 On Monday Microsoft announced that the new mobile build would be available on tomorrow, but as noted, it was actually rolled out late in the afternoon is available now.

Windows 10 Mobile Build 10536

The update is available now to Windows Insiders. Just go to Settings > Update & Security > Phone update > Check for updates. And you will need to go through two rounds of updates. First is to update to build 10536.100 and then to build 10536.1004

The new build features fixes for bugs in the previous release that broke the Quiet Hours and mobile hotspot features. It also fixes an issue with a non-functioning Lock Screen that some users were having. According to Microsoft’s Blogging Windows site, you should also see the following improvements:

Insider Hub is now included again!Mobile hotspot functionality has been fixed.Voice input has been updated to add support for Japanese and English (India) speech recognition.Single hop updates are again available from Windows Phone 8.1 to Windows 10 Mobile Insider Preview for all devices.Two-factor authentication is fixed when setting up a device for both text and phone authentication.Start screen will successfully load instead of failing with “Loading …” displayed in a loop until device was rebooted. (We are still tracking down an issue were it may show “Loading …” for a few seconds.)Quite Hours\Do Not Disturb has been fixed.Delay in showing date and time on Lock screen has been improved.Pinch and zoom in Maps now works as expected.

It also includes an updated Photos app, a new one-handed mode that allows reaching items easier, and the Windows Feedback app returns.

Of course, there is also known issues in this build, which according to Microsoft include the following:

After rebooting your phone, you won’t see notifications, such as new messages, until you unlock your phone. After that, you should see notifications for new messages just fine.“zStorage” appears in the Settings app under System and clicking on it causes the Settings app to crash.Camera upload to OneDrive may not be enabled based on prior settings. To fix this, make sure you are running the latest version of OneDrive by opening the top left navigation bar, then settings on the right to verify that camera upload is turned on and you have the latest app (version 17.2).Insiders will not be able to move from Slow to Fast rings temporarily; we are working on a fix but in the interim to move a device from Slow to Fast you will need to use the Windows Phone Recovery Tool to first start on Windows Phone 8.1 and opt directly into the Fast ring.Additional languages for speech and keyboards won’t be available until tomorrow (9/15) and will error if you try to download. If you already have languages for speech and keyboards downloaded to your phone prior to upgrading, they will remain and available to use

Remember to make sure your phone is fully charged, you’re on Wi-Fi, and leave your phone plugged in while the update takes place. During the upgrade process, your phone will restart several times. I am just now starting to download the updates to my Lumia 635, and after I eventually do get the bits downloaded, we’ll see how things go. Despite the delays in new builds, Microsoft seems to be close to the final release as the past few updates are only improving performance and patching security bugs.
